Who vikings were, and what they did in their spare time.

Viking meant pirate, or Scandinavian.
The men were all originally farmers, traders, and fishermen, because of the fertile farmlands and never ending water. The women stayed home with the younger children and weaved clothing for the whole family.When the daughters were old enough they would learn to cook,weave, and clean for their future families. The boys would learn to farm and/or fish, and they would also learn some basic fighting skills.
When they were not taking over villages, the Vikings would enjoy many different games. Two favorite board games included Chess, and another game similar to chess called Hnefatafl. The children would play with dolls and wooden animals. They also enjoyed a game called Kingy Bats, where there would be children in a circle each holding a wooden circle. A tied piece of fabric would be bounced from child to child, whoever didn't let it touch the ground during their turn would be determined the winner.
